Our client is a small family owned business who buy and sell scrap metal. They operate from one site in Sydney and employ 20 people. They have recently moved to larger premises and are enjoying solid growth.
The main hazards in this workplace include use of mobile plant (a forklift and excavator), and the associated hazards from loading the scrap metal into large bins and transporting the large bins.
Due to the size of the business, the client does not have a dedicated OHS resource and have engaged The Brief Group to provide external support. The first step involved developing an OHS Management System that was appropriate to the size of the client and then assume responsibility for driving its implementation through employee mentoring and monitoring and completing more technical tasks such as risk assessments, procedure writing, meeting facilitation and corrective action management.
Our consultant attends to this client every six weeks for a full day.
